This traditional South African farmstead is home to approximately 50 horses,
including some riding horses, brood mares, stallions and young stock; as well
as numerous indigenous game species and a wide variety of bird life.
Enjoy the
simplicity of African farm life while making the most of the unparalleled
riding and hidden treasures of the Wild Coast. This itinerary is designed for
those who want more from their holiday than just saddle sores and aching
muscles, providing a balance of riding and non-riding activities. This program can also be adjusted to suit guests wishing to spend more time in the
saddle and can be easily customized to suit individual needs and interests.
Day 1
On arrival at East London Airport, you will
be transferred to Sunray Farm where your hosts will settle you into your room before tantalizing your travel-weary taste buds with a light lunch in the garden
(weather permitting). A short afternoon ride on the farm will give you a taste
of things to come as well as the opportunity to stretch your legs after your
journey. After the ride, feel free to explore the farm and meet some of our
other equine and canine friends before enjoying a good, home-cooked meal.
Day 2
A variety of riding experiences awaits you
on your first full day in Africa. After a sumptuous farm breakfast, your guides
will take you through the indigenous African bush in search of naturally occurring antelope and warthog! A good mornings ride allows a full exploration of the area and its inhabitants.
After the ride, relax with a cold beer and light lunch at
the country club before meeting your second mount – a sure-footed, fit and
responsive horse that will carry you over the challenging terrain and unspoilt
beaches of the Wild Coast. This short afternoon ride is a chance to get the
feel of your horse and establish the suitability of your elected beach mount!
Day 3
After a hearty breakfast to prepare you for
a good day’s riding, you will head off to the coast where you will begin a full
day adventure along the Wild Coast. Your route will provide plenty of
opportunity for your horse to stretch his legs on the long, sandy beaches of
the Wild Coast as you ride up to the notorious shipwreck of the Jacaranda.
After lunch at an authentic, Wild Coast
hotel, your guide will lead you through the villages of the Old Transkei and
show you something of the local culture as you meander inland on your route
back to Kei Mouth ready for another relaxing evening at the farm.
Day 4
A change of scene and a chance to rest your
riding muscles awaits you today as you will be transferred through to
Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve for a full game experience. After acquainting
yourself with a close up African Elephant experience, a game drive through the
reserve will provide a varied game experience with the chance to see white
rhinos and lions. After a scrumptious lunch, guests have the opportunity to
meet and play with cheetah before heading back to the farm.
A late afternoon ride will take you through another
area of natural beauty where you can enjoy a drink on the hoof while soaking up
the unparalleled splendor of an African sunset.
Day 5
Enjoy a morning of riding around the
picturesque coastal village of Morgan Bay, taking in the dramatic views from
the cliff tops and visiting the rock hyraxes in their precarious homes! On the
return journey, the ride will stop in at Yellowwood Forest where you can browse
in the gift shop while indulging in a slice of irresistible homemade cake.
For the afternoon, you’ll need to exchange
your chaps for your sea legs as The Fish Eagle boat awaits to take you on a
cruise up the famous Kei River. Enjoy a late lunch on the boat where a
traditional braai (barbecue) will be prepared for your indulgence. Resident
fish eagles will provide spectacular lunchtime entertainment with their daring
feats of flying.
Once back on dry land, you will be returned
safe and sound to the farm for another evening of good food and farm-style
hospitality.
Day 6
After a couple of days of varied
activities, it’s time to get back into the saddle for a full day of riding.
Head up the coast to discover some of the hidden treasures of the Wild Coast,
including places of historical and geographical significance. After a light pub
lunch, your ride will continue back along the unspoilt beaches you will have
come to know and love.
Day 7
Embrace the early morning and catch the
sunrise before heading out onto the farm for another bush experience. After
a few hours in the saddle, you will have worked up an appetite and will be
treated to bunch in the garden at the main homestead.
The afternoon is open for guests to choose
their own adventure! Those wanting a little pampering can visit the spa at the
local Morgan Bay Hotel, while those wanting a more active afternoon can choose
from a number of riding and hiking options, or visit a local organic farm,
school or community and get a taste of local African life.
Back at the farm, you can relax and toast
the day’s end from the porch.
Day 8
Sadly, this marks the end of your Wild
Coast adventure although a later flight will give you the
chance to squeeze in one last ride before you head off home or onto new
horizons.
